    Reentry

You know how when you go away, after a week or so, you are actually glad to go back home?  You start to miss your own bed and your day-to-day life.  Nope.  I could have stayed on the Cape LOTS longer… In fact, after a last sumptuous breakfast, I dawdled for hours on the Cape and walked first in the fog at Paine’s Creek Beach, then on the Rail Trail, before finally heading out at 12:30.  I took the scenic route out 6A to the Bourne Bridge and didn’t get off-Cape until after 1:30… btw – it’s a tribute to my…

    Into each life…

…A little rain must fall.    Longfellow was right! Okay, it was a LOT of rain, a total wash-out weather wise.  I’m talking the wipers-on-high, standing-water-on-the-road, umbrella-useless kind of hours-long downpour.  Still, a day on vacation in Cape Cod is a day on vacation in Cape Cod. I did venture out to do some art-hunting, but had no luck and got drenched in the process.  So I came back to my home-away-from-home, changed into dry clothes, and spent the afternoon reading.  That’s truly my idea of a good time!  I’m reading the beginning of a fantasy series which might be…

    A thinking spot

Like Winnie-the-Pooh, I like to have a thinking spot.  In fact, I have more than one.  A good thinking spot must be relatively quiet, out-of-doors, with a lovely water feature (the Ocean is a nice one), and space to sit.  At home, my thinking spot is in Longwood Gardens (beside the brook up behind the chimes tower).  In Cape Cod, the byways abound with thinking spots.  And my favorite is Marconi Beach, which is where I spent my afternoon today…   C’mon… How can you beat THAT? While I’m in the Cape, I’ve been doing oodles of thinking… beach-walking, driving, hanging…

    What I don’t miss

I don’t miss watching the clock… I love the mellow, no-cares pace of vacation.  I don’t miss summer weather… I love this early fall vibe – mix of sun and clouds, temperatures ranging from the high 50s to low 70s.  I don’t miss having cereal for breakfast… I love the fit-for-royalty repasts that Donna and Byron serve up every morning. I don’t miss spending hours surfing the net… I learned I can actually survive with just a quick run-down of the news and check-in on the social networking sites (Facebook, my Netvibes RSS feeds, Twitter feeds).  I don’t miss watching TV… I love…

    Meandering

I had something of a lazy day today.  The weather was changeable – sunny and cloudy, warm and cool, calm and windy.  I just meandered through the day with no real agenda.  Isn’t that what a vacation is for? After another yummy breakfast, I hung around Brewster by the Sea in order to meet up by phone with some friends from the Academy of HRD (one of my professional organizations) to do some comparing notes and planning.  That bit of work accomplished, I decided to check out one of my favorite craft stores (where I bought a few trinkets for…

    Heaven on earth

Today was a truly spectacular day on the Cape – sunny and in the low 70s.  My day started with a lovely breakfast of fresh pineapple followed by buttermilk pancakes.  Yum!  Donna made another batch of molasses cookies, and I admit I took two for a snack later (actually, they were sort-of lunch).  Yum again. Since this is likely to be the warmest day here, I went up to my favorite beach in the National Seashore – Marconi Beach.  First, I took a long walk south on the beach.  The waves were fabulous… the surf-boarders were out in force.  The beach…

    Cape Cod Redux

At last – back at the Cape – my place to relax, reenergize, reconnect, and reflect.  Sounds like heady stuff, but a week here is a fantastic place to take a step away from the everyday business and think. And read, and shop, and glory in the beach walks, and take in the sights. On the way up, I spent Sunday night with the Connecticut Lombardozzi’s and had a lovely dinner and fun time playing a game with Kate and Thomas.  We played a dice version of Phase 10, and Thomas ran away with it.  The fall color is coming out…
