    Hither and yon

Today was my last day on the Cape, and I wound up traveling back and forth across practically the whole expanse.  My first stop was 30 minutes east (lower cape) to pay my respects to the National Seashore beaches.  Then I went 30 minutes west (upper cape) to check out Heritage Gardens.  Last, I took just a short jaunt down the road from Brewster by the Sea (mid cape) to enjoy the Paine’s Creek sunset one last time…  Allow me to take you along. One foot in front of the other

“If I had a day that I could give to you, I’d give to you a day just like today.  And if I had a song that I could sing for you, I’d sing a song to make you feel this way.  Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy.”  ~ John Denver Surprise, surprise, more walking today…  this time a gorgeous, sparkling, warm, energizing, 90-minute spring walk along the rail trail.  I wish I could bottle it for you… that fantastic sunshine on your shoulders, breezes in your hair, music in your ears, perfect spring day. I tried to capture it a…

    The pleasure of my company

When you take yourself on vacation, you had better enjoy the pleasure of your own company.  There is a lot of time to think thoughts both big and small.  I live inside my head a lot, and I can usually entertain myself pretty well. Here’s a brief glimpse into my adventures and the weird world inside my head… Saturday, I took a road trip to Hyannis.  It was a partly sunny / partly cloudy day and a nice one for shopping.  In Hyannis, there’s a main street with lots of stores as well as a nice harbor on Nantucket Sound which is…

    Dilly-dallying

It was a lovely day for dilly-dallying.  The day started with a fabulous breakfast, followed by a walk on the beach.  “Walking is also an ambulation of the mind.”  ~ Gretel Ehrlich I’m not much for sitting out in the sun in the middle of the day, so I came back to Brewster by the Sea and hung out in the gardens for a few hours reading.  Later, I headed out to see what I would see… a scenic drive took me to Orleans, where I checked out the stores and galleries on Main Street.  The beach on that side of the…

    Arrival

To get to Cape Cod, you cross over Bourne Bridge, a terrifyingly high four-lane feat of engineering that makes you grip the steering wheel tight.  At the bottom of the bridge, you immediately enter the Bourne traffic circle, which makes you feel like you’re driving on a bumper car track in a real car.  But once you pass through this double test of your resolve, you’re rewarded by the knowledge that you are – finally – on the Cape. The sun sparkles a little brighter here, welcoming.  The trees seem a bit more green, proud of their scruffy appearance.  The…
