Six months from today, I will be 50 years old. With any luck, I’ve still got half my life yet to live, but I also have to admit there are a lot of candles burned down on my birthday cakes. Lately, I’ve been reading some interesting memoirs – written by a variety of people, both famous and not so, in a variety of styles, both formal and unconventional. The stories they tell are funny and sad, inspirational and mundane, conversational and poetic.
Regardless of style, memoirs provide a glimpse into the author’s life, and mind, and heart. I’ve started to realize that I don’t often tell the stories of my life. I live inside my head a lot. There are some things I’d like to record for posterity. So the observations and remembrances you will read here are for my nieces and nephews, and maybe even for their children. The stories are for my friends, many who live far away and don’t always know what I’m thinking about. They are for me to re-read and re-live when I’m whiling away my retirement years.
I may be 50, but I’m a modern girl who loves living in an age of technology. So I choose to use a blog as the forum in which to share my stories. They’ll come out in no particular order, triggered by whatever is happening in real time. Some will be remembrances of the past, some will be memories newly made. I hope to share some hard lessons learned. And I want to capture the times that still make me laugh and the touching moments that I don’t want to forget. I hope they’ll be retold and remembered, and occasionally embellished and disputed in the comments section as my loved ones read and recall their own perspectives.
So enjoy… the stories of my life.
