There’s an Old Testament Bible story that tells of Noah building an arc to save selected few from the great flood. I’m not so sure I believe in the two-by-two salvation of all the animals on the earth, but historians have shown us evidence of a huge flood in ancient times. The Bible says that God placed a rainbow in the sky to remind us of his promise never again to destroy the world by flood. I think about all those people who endured the 40 days and 40 nights of rain and how relieved they must have felt when the sun finally came out. I’m feeling a little like that now…
The sun came out for us here at the beach. Up until now, we’ve been having a bit of a wet start to summer, and everyone has been wondering if it would EVER stop raining. Well, we’ve lucked out with perfect beach weather. Warm, breezy, sunny!
The details of our days might sound boring, but it’s been heaven.
Monday: Walked up the boardwalk for breakfast (well, Lisa and I walked; Pat and PJ rode bikes; Emily lazed in the stroller), beach time (my umbrella went flying twice, but it was still fun!), lunch and games, more beach time (I stayed home and read for the afternoon); dinner, walk on the beach, Canasta night.
Fun facts for Monday:
> The boogie boards are a big hit, and we had pretty good waves (Pat enjoys it as much –if not more – than PJ).
> A GPS is terrific, but it doesn’t always know best – I tried to go to KFC to get chicken strips for the salads for dinner. I went to one just over the route 9 bridge which was closed, then followed the GPS directions to Longport, but that one was just gone! Oh, well; I got a nice tour of the surrounding towns!
> Em’s not sleeping well; she managed to stay awake until after 11 – she’s cute, but stubborn.
> Oh, and watch out for Lisa when you play Canasta. She had a pull-from-behind enormous fourth hand that blew Pat and me away – I WAS winning! Game’s still open, though – anything can happen.
Tuesday: Morning beach walk for PJ, Emily, and me, then I went window shopping (family went to the beach); leftovers for lunch; hanging out (I finished reading Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince L); went to the boardwalk for burgers for dinner. Then Emily crashed for much-needed sleep, PJ and I hung and watched TV, and Pat and Lisa went to Atlantic City to try their hand in the casinos. (Nope, no big wins.)
Fun facts for Tuesday:
> PJ and Emily have terrific imaginations… Em can sing to herself and play, and PJ loves making up stories, too. PJ and I had a whole outer space adventure visiting weird planets without ever leaving the couch.
> Summer colds are catching most of us but we’re powering through the sniffles, sore throats and headaches. (Hint: don’t go for a beach walk with a cold-stricken two-year-old without bringing tissues; yuk.)
I asked PJ to tell me something fun to add to this post and he suggested this joke: Why don’t lobsters share? (I’m supposed to wait for you to e-mail us back before giving you the answer, but in the interest of time, I’ll tell you the answer anyway.) Answer: ‘Cause they’re shellfish! Ha.
Sun and sand… having a terrific time at the beach!
