2010.05 - Staycation

Weekend wanderings

Last days of a long vacation…

I’m going to have to remember this strategy:  13 days’ vacation – a packing day, seven days at the Cape, and five days “stay-cation” –  that’s 13 d0-what-I-want days to relax and recharge.  Bliss.

I could get used to this life… long walks, travels, beaches and gardens, the sounds of waves and the smell of flowers, time with family and friends, reading, writing, re-energizing, thinking.

Accounting for the long holiday weekend…

Friday – Longwood, shopping, errands, home-cooked meals
Saturday – clean house, host PJ and Emily for the afternoon and night – trip to Delaware Museum of Natural History
Sunday – church, some to-do-list items, barbeque at Tad’s
Monday – Longwood, nap, to-do-list items, laundry, more home-cooked meals

Some evidence of my wanderings…

At the Museum of Natural History
New tree house exhibit and old friends

The gift store finds were the biggest hit.  (PJ and Emily)
We spent 30 m watching the “Bat Wing” roll down the driveway. 🙂

Barbeque!!  (Tad, AJ, Roma)

Looonng walk at Longwood…
Down the flower walk to the Italian gardens…

Seen along the long lake and Pierce’s woods…

Past the homestead and backstage at the outdoor theatre…

Followed by a pause to smell the roses…

To my favorite thinking spot behind the chime tower…

Love, love, love the weeping cherry trees and the sound of rushing water!

Down past the chime tower and hillside garden…

Through the idea gardens… and on up to the Conservatory…

Where there was a fabulous lily display…

Now you know why my Facebook status so frequently reports a visit to Longwood Gardens… a vacation without leaving home!

This is the life…  Indeed.

  1. Hi Cathy,
Wow! Longwood photo’s are fabulous! And of course you have the cutest nieces and nephews ever! Looks like Tad was cooking up some barbecue chicken. Yum… I was doing some weed pulling, planting and mulch spreading. Still more to do today. Have a great week -see you soon.
