Winding down and gearing up

Another epic vacation is coming to a close… since I’ve already unpacked the car and stocked up the groceries, I guess it’s all over except one more good night’s sleep – this time in my own bed. Let me record the weekend happenings before we call this one a wrap.

After drenching rain Friday night, Saturday dawned cloudy and drizzly, but it let up enough for one last long beach walk after another fabulous breakfast. The tide was in, and the waves were comparatively choppy, but the walk still performed its magic so I could leave the Cape with a quieted mind. I will return!

Selfishly, I felt the Cape was shedding a few tears for my leave-taking as I drove out of Brewster, but it was clear the rain was over as the clouds started to break up as I neared the mainland. I headed over to Ridgefield to visit with the Connecticut Lombardozzi’s.

I arrived in time for dinner, and we caught up a bit had a lovely summer picnic out on the back deck. Andy, Cristina, Kate, and Thomas are quite the hockey family… both players and fans. Stanley Cup semi-finals were on tap for the evening.  I can honestly say I haven’t watched a hockey game since high school (the Broad Street Bullies were favorites of all the girls at my high school, so it was politically correct to be in the know). Of course, the LA Kings tied the game in the last 12 seconds (that was one exciting moment), and the game went into double overtime before the Chicago Black Hawks took the game in the second overtime period. We actually didn’t’ see that… since it wasn’t the home team (NY Rangers), the family pooped out and went to bed before it played out that way. LOL

This morning, while the teenagers slept in, and Andy did his morning run, I took a short walk around the neighborhood and kept up the practice of taking a few pictures along the way. It was a gorgeous Sunday morning, and I’m already missing the beach.

I call these “Light and Shadow.”

The rest of my visit consisted of a traditional pancake breakfast and a quick run with Kate to take in a local crafts fair. Then it was on the road again for the trip home, enjoying the sunshine and the music blaring on the stereo.

And so winds down another fabulous vacation. Time off is not only a reward for hard work but also a prelude of great work to come. Over the last week, ideas percolated and plans began to come together.

“It’s the dream afraid of waking that never takes the chance… Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows, lies the seed that with the sun’s love in the spring becomes the rose.”

Time to make some dreams real!

This is the life…
