A lesson in metaphors

The ride home from Cape Cod was a lesson in metaphors…

I waved goodbye to Paine’s Creek Beach, but it was too cold and windy to take a walk there. So I took the long way out of Brewster and walked on the rail trail. The walk started sunny with big puffy clouds, but ended with the rain clouds rolling in. Vacation’s over.

The ride off the Cape and through Rhode Island was like going back in a time tunnel. Speeding down a long ribbon of highway, hemmed in with Spring-blooming trees on both sides, with dark clouds pressing down.  “There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered.” (Nelson Mandela)

In Connecticut, it started to rain. In New York, I hit a major traffic jam going over the Tappan Zee Bridge. Welcome back to the real world.

By the top of the Garden State Parkway, the sun was peeking out. Down the Parkway and onto the New Jersey Turnpike, I was treated to a beautiful pink and violet sunset. All will be right with the world.

That’s it from Cape Cod, 2008.
This is the life…

The stones from my walks
