Like Winnie-the-Pooh, I like to have a thinking spot. In fact, I have more than one. A good thinking spot must be relatively quiet, out-of-doors, with a lovely water feature (the Ocean is a nice one), and space to sit.
At home, my thinking spot is in Longwood Gardens (beside the brook up behind the chimes tower). In Cape Cod, the byways abound with thinking spots. And my favorite is Marconi Beach, which is where I spent my afternoon today…
While I’m in the Cape, I’ve been doing oodles of thinking… beach-walking, driving, hanging out in my lovely room. A little professional planning, a little personal strategizing, a little reflection, a little journaling. So nice to get away and take time to think!
Isn’t it strange that we talk least about the things we think about the most? — Charles Lindbergh
My agenda today was pretty simple… a morning reviewing papers for a conference, a quiet lunch out on the porch swing with a good book, a drive up to Marconi Beach for a looonng beach walk followed by sitting near the waves and journaling awhile (until the wind got too cold for me), then dinner and back to Brewster by the Sea for more reading and relaxing.
Sigh. Blissful, grateful, contented, happy sigh.
Another extraordinarily low low tide…

The view from today’s sitting-and-thinking spot…
