Meandering

I had something of a lazy day today.  The weather was changeable – sunny and cloudy, warm and cool, calm and windy.  I just meandered through the day with no real agenda.  Isn’t that what a vacation is for?

After another yummy breakfast, I hung around Brewster by the Sea in order to meet up by phone with some friends from the Academy of HRD (one of my professional organizations) to do some comparing notes and planning.  That bit of work accomplished, I decided to check out one of my favorite craft stores (where I bought a few trinkets for myself) and then headed over to the Rail Trail in Harwich for a long walk.

Here on the Cape, they’ve paved over an old rail line and made it a biking / walking path that runs from one end of the Cape to the other.  I love walking this section because it runs along a couple of lakes.  Today the clouds were in and out, throwing shadows and occasionally letting the sun burst through.  These pictures were all taken in the span of an hour as I walked a couple of miles along the trail.  Beautiful weather, Sandi Patty singing in my ears… nice way to meander.

Seen along the rail trail…

 And this one’s for Daniel… 2009_0930CapeCod0046

The only problem with Donna and Byron’s fabulous breakfast feasts, is that you’re not hungry again until about 3 o’clock, and then you may as well wait until dinner  🙂  So after the rail trail walk, I came back to my room and read a bit until it was late enough for an early supper.  Of course, a 5 pm dinner leaves plenty of time to catch the 6:30 sunset – a bonus!

Above, you see how totally calm the lakes were early this afternoon.  Well, it was a completely different story on Paine’s Creek at nightfall.  There was a brisk wind, but that didn’t stop me from taking a walk.  The stroll down the beach was great because the wind and the brightness of the setting sun were at my back.  But yikes!  Trekking back with a stiff headwind in the face was a bit on the chilly side!  Worth every minute, though.

Tonight, I’ve been doing some thinking and making notes about a professional book I want to write eventually.  Oh, to be independently wealthy so I could find myself a garret office like the room I’m staying in now and just become a writer!  Vacations are for daydreaming, too!

Thought for today:

Life holds so many simple blessings, each day bringing its own individual wonder.     — John McLeod
