Soundtrack for the big day

Happy birthday to me!  Fifty years young.  Half a lifetime lived.  Please God, half a lifetime yet to go!

Here’s my soundtrack for the day…

Here’s to Life by Barbra Streisand… “No complaints and no regrets. I still believe in chasing dreams and placing bets.  And I have learned that all you give is all you get, so give it all you’ve got.”  Absolutely.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Eva Cassidy… “Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high, there’s a land that I heard of once in a lullaby.  Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue; and the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true.”  My favorite lullaby.

Looking for Space by John Denver… “On the road of experience, I’m trying to find my own way…  When you’re looking for space, and to find out who you are, when you’re looking to try and reach the stars.  It’s a sweet, sweet dream.  Sometimes I’m almost there; sometimes I fly like an eagle, and sometimes I’m deep in despair.”  Always looking to reach the stars.

A Piece of Sky from the Yentl soundtrack (Barbra Streisand)… “The more I live – the more I learn. The more I learn – the more I realize the less I know. Each step I take, each page I turn, each mile I travel only means he more I have to go. What’s wrong with wanting more? If you can fly – then soar! With all there is, why settle for
just a piece of sky?”  About the love of learning.

I’m The Greatest Star also by Barbra Streisand…  This track got me through some really bad times!  “I’m the greatest star.  I am by far, but no one knows it.”  And as a bonus… “Nobody, no nobody is gonna rain on my parade!”  Believe it.

Defying Gravity from the Wizard soundtrack (Idina Menzel)… “So if you care to find me, look to the western sky. As someone told me lately – ev’ryone deserves the chance to fly. And if I’m flying solo, at least I’m flying free. To those who’d ground me, take a message back from me. Tell them how I am defying gravity! I’m flying high defying gravity!”  So much to do!

Savior Came (When I Was Needy) by Sandi Patty… “I had wandered in my heart so far from home… My faith grew cold.  O, I feared the angels that protect me had flown, had left me; then I reached for heaven, and turned my face to Him.  Savior came when I was needy, mercy found when I was lost… O, Savior finds the heart that’s lost.”  Thank you, Lord.

Joy to the World (Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog) by Three Dog Night… My siblings will understand why this one is included.    “Jeremiah was a bullfrog, was good friend of mine. I never understood a single word he said but I helped him drink his wine, and he always had some mighty fine wine. Singing,  joy to the world, all the boys and girls now, joy to the fishies in the deep blue sea.  Joy to you and me.”  With a toast to Daddy!

Before the Last Leaf Falls by David Lanz… This one’s an instrumental piece.  Here’s what David Lanz said in his liner notes.  “As that las leaf falls, it only symbolizes the end of the tree’s cycle, not the end of the tree’s life.”  Here’s to many more seasons…

Through the Years by The Osmonds…. “Through the years, through all the good and bad, I knew how much we had.  I’ve always been so glad to be with you, through the years.”  (The video is highly emotional because that event is expected to be the LAST time all the Osmonds perform together on one stage.)  Cheers to all of you!

I’ve been blessed with wonderful family and friends, with talents and with opportunities.  I hope you enjoy the stories I’ve recorded so far… and that you’ll check back because I’ve got lots more to tell.   Happy birthday to me… my gift to you.

  1. It’s amazing how music can define or redefine periods in our lives…”Looking for Space” became the song I began and ended almost every trip I took to Villanova during 1987.
