Hands down, autumn is my favorite season. The world is full of color; the air is crisp and clean; the breezes are cool; new sweaters are warm and comfy. Glorious autumn.
Aside from having the best weather, I think I am enamored with Autumn because I have always associated it with new beginnings. All those many years of school gave me great associations with September and October… clean notebook pages, never-opened textbooks, empty grade ledgers, new supplies, new clothes, new attitude. It’s a completely fresh start ripe with possibilities of new friends, new things to learn, new start.
As I’ve grown older, I’ve come to recognize that a fresh start is always a possibility; one does not need to wait until the Fall, or the new year, or any other particular part of the year that is associated with new beginnings. I can begin again any time I like by making a decision, making a plan, making a commitment, and making a start. Heartaches and missteps and disappointments can be put behind me if I so choose.
Taking a lesson from Autumn, just put on your brightest clothes, turn your face to the sun, and kick up a breeze.
