On the way up, I spent Sunday night with the Connecticut Lombardozzi’s and had a lovely dinner and fun time playing a game with Kate and Thomas. We played a dice version of Phase 10, and Thomas ran away with it. The fall color is coming out in that neck of the woods, and it was a nice drive if rainy. They were up and out early today, and so was I. Loved the drive to the Cape – it was a sparkling sunny day, and all the traffic jams were on the southbound side.
I’m staying this time in the Acorn room at Brewster by the Sea – a huge room tucked away under the eaves on the second floor overlooking the back yard. Beautiful four-poster bed, comfy chairs, great cross-breeze. (Pictures later when the light is better.) Donna and Byron are the most terrific hosts; I am treated like an old friend. I plan to spend hours reading and daydreaming here… the gazebo and poolside gardens look very enticing. Of course, the beach calls, too.
It didn’t take me long to drop the bags in the room and head over to Paine’s Beach – just 5 minutes away. Took a long walk and then set up my beach chair on the shore and read a book. (A new Jude Deveraux book called Lavender Morning – a little mystery, a little romance, a little humor.) When the breeze picked up, I came back to the room to finish the book, but was back on the beach for Sunset before dinner.
Too bad I don’t kayak – peaceful.
